EXPERIENCE

Retired Divorce Litigator, now, a Coach, Mediator and Arbitrator

Since 1984 I practiced exclusively as a family law lawyer. In December 2021, after I did my last trial, I retired from the practice of law.

SEE A LIST OF REPORTED DECISIONS

Having been a child of divorce, a parent of divorced children and married to a divorced man with children, I decided I preferred to assist others going through difficult times by coaching, mediating or arbitrating any disputes, whether they be minor or significant.

COACH, MEDIATOR, ARBITRATOR

Since 1984 I have been involved in solving disputes in many ways. I have always viewed court as a last resort as it is unpredictable, costly and public.

  • Mediation is a process of resolving disputes between two or more parties through the use of a neutral third-party mediator. The mediator helps the parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Unlike arbitration, in which a third party (an arbitrator) makes a decision for the parties, mediation is non-binding, meaning the parties are not obligated to accept the mediator's proposal.

  • Micro mediation is a type of mediation that takes place quickly and informally, typically through an online platform. It is often used to resolve low-stakes disputes or conflicts that do not require a formal legal process. Micro mediation can be useful because it allows parties to reach a resolution quickly and inexpensively, without the need for formal legal representation or lengthy court proceedings.

  • Arbitration is a process of resolving legal disputes between two or more parties through the use of a neutral third-party arbitrator. Unlike mediation, in which the mediator does not make a final decision, the arbitrator makes a binding decision that is legally enforceable. Arbitration is typically used in situations where parties have agreed to submit their disputes to arbitration, such as in commercial contracts or labor agreements. It is often faster and less expensive than litigation in court, but parties may have limited options for appealing the arbitrator's decision.
